Sally Jones

San Diego Legacy Award 2002

One's desire to contribute to their community emanates from many places. For Sally Jones, a undying love of the arts and a passion for helping those in need have been the driving force behind a lifetime of charitable involvement.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduate of the University of Minnesota, Sally vacationed with her family in what was then the sleeping town of San Diego. In her early 20's, Sally met and married native San Diegan, Evan V. Jones, who founded Ace Parking Management, which is now the nation's largest privately held parking company.

Sally's love for music and the arts emerged as a teenager when she studied voice formally. The arts have been constant part of her life ever since. She has served as president of the San Diego Symphony's Women's Committee, as chair of the San Diego Symphony Fashion Show and the Museum of Art Ball, on the board of directors of the San Diego Arts COMBO, and is currently on the board of the Timken Museum of Art.

In 1970 Sally received one of the highest honors a patron of the arts can receive; President Nixon invited her to serve on the Board of Trustees for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She served continuously on the Kennedy Center's board for nearly a decade.

Helping those in need is Sally's second passion in life. A strident supporter of the fight against multiple sclerosis, Sally was a longtime board member and past board chair of the San Diego Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Named "Woman of Dedication" by The Salvation Army, Sally has also served on the boards of Children's Hospital, Children's Home Society of San Diego, as chair of the Charity Ball and is currently a member of the Advisory Board for Scripps Hospital. She remains very active on behalf of Sharp Hospital on whose board Evan v. Jones served for more than 34 years.

A woman of keen insight and sharp wit, Sally has long enamored the people and organizations on whose behalf she has worked so hard. She remains a constant contributor to the San Diego community and continues to enjoy her first love, music.

Last year Sally attended her most recent Rolling Stones concert -in the pouring rain.

Women's International Center extends appreciation and accolades to Sally Jones with the Living Legacy Award.
